Rapid Bay Sea Kayaking Tour

Rapid Bay is one hour south of Adelaide and is a spectacular destination for sea kayaking. We visit beautiful isolated beaches, mysterious sea caves and seals and sea lions that always keen to play!

This amazing experience begins on the beach at Rapid Bay on the lower Fleurieu Peninsula about 90 Km south of Adelaide.  Here the rugged coastline is spectacular with towering cliffs and crystal-clear water, a great place for a sea kayaking adventure. Sea Kayaking is a great way to explore South Australia's incredible coastline. Past customers rave about this adventure...check out the images captured here or on our Facebook page! 

This is the most adventurous sea kayaking tour we offer and is conducted over the warmer months. Dates are advertised via our Facebook page so like us to receive updates. You can also give us a call or email to check when the next tour will run.


TOUR INFORMATION

The tour begins on the beach at Rapid Bay and after instruction on safety, paddling and fitting of the gear we are off to visit isolated beaches, mysterious sea caves and view seals, sea lions and sea eagles that inhabit this area.

Sea kayaking is not only great for your health it is also the most environmentally friendly way to interact with this environment and its inhabitants. The tour fee includes all kayaking equipment, guidance, lunch and non-alcoholic drinks. We pride ourselves on offering fresh, local foods and can cater for special dietary requirements on request.

Lunch is a healthy build your own "sub" or salad on a beautiful, isolated sandy beach, only accessible by small boat. This includes a selection of meats, ham, chicken, cheese and fresh salads. Special dietary requirements can be catered for. 


INCLUSIONS

  • We provide quality 2-person sea kayaks which are very stable and easy to use
  • Comfortable buoyancy vests
  • Friendly guidance that will make the experience both safe and great fun.


REQUIREMENTS

  • This tour is suitable for those who love the sea, have sound fitness and past kayaking experience.
  • We cover 12-14 Km during the tour which may be beyond the limit of novice paddlers or those who do not exercise regularly.
  • This tour is for adults and children 15 years and over.  

 

COVID 19 – CONDITIONS OF BOOKING

From Wednesday 1 December 2021, participants aged 16 and older who choose to come to our sites will be required to show evidence that they have been double vaccinated (or are exempt from vaccination by order of the Chief Public Health Officer). 

Whilst we hope that this decision will be welcomed by some, we understand that some will be unhappy with the decision and for this we apologise.

The safety of our staff and customers is of the utmost importance to us, therefore we need to minimise the risk whilst maximising the opportunity to people to participate in these activities safely.


WEATHER POLICY

This tour is highly weather dependent...we will only go out if weather is virtually calm. We will phone you 2-4 days prior to the date of the tour to confirm conditions are suitable. In the case of bad weather
cancellation we are happy to reschedule your booking for another day, or you could transfer to one of our Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard Tours near Port Adelaide.

Hire a 2 person kayak for up to 2 hours from Garden Island to explore the Dolphin Sanctuary. We supply you with quality equipment, a map, advice on the best spots and safe paddling for you to create your own unique adventure!

Hire a 2-person kayak to explore the Dolphin Sanctuary for up to 2 hours. Go on a self-guided exploration of the Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard using one of the handy A4 maps we provide of the area!

Kayak pick up is located at the Garden Island Boat Ramp and Reserve, Lot 204 Garden Island Road, Gillman (click to see location) in the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard…the best location for paddling in Adelaide. You can explore the beautiful mangrove creeks and Ships Graveyard Maritime Heritage Trail and search for dolphins with your family or friends. 

We have the craft ready for you at the launch site, help you set up and supply a map and advice on best spots and safe paddling. You create your own unique adventure! 


We follow all COVID-19 regulations. Our equipment is thoroughly cleaned after each use. Kayaking is a great way to socially isolate and get some exercise at the same time!  


INCLUSIONS

  • Hire fee includes a double kayak, 2x paddle, 2x life vests and map for up to 2 hours from the start of your session time.
  • Our service includes some time for assisting in setting up and providing safety and local area information. If you are a novice paddler this could be 20 minutes. 
  • When hiring a kayak, you will not be able to go to the ships graveyard due to safety. If you wish to visit the Ships Graveyard, please book into our 'Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard Tour'.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Children must be a minimum of 8 years old.
  • Due to legal reasons we cannot hire to persons under the age of 18 years unless accompanied by an adult.
  • Our 2-person kayaks are suitable for people up to approximately 1.85m (6') in height and 140kg (each). Please call if you have any concerns

HIRE RATES

The hire fee is for a 2/3 person 'sit on top' kayak, 2 or 3 life vests (depending on number of participants) and two paddles for up to three hours use from the start time you book. 2/3-person 'sit on top' kayak hire is $60 for a 3 hour hire.

Please note. The 2/3-person 
'sit on top' kayak is suitable for 2 adults and a small child or furry friend (dog). This kayak is not suitable for 3 adults.

• The fee is for the craft you are hiring-not per person.
• Sunday rates are slightly higher.


OUR HIRE SERVICE

Our service includes some time for assisting in setting up and providing safety and local area
information. If you are a novice paddler this could be 20 minutes. 

If you have not kayaked before you can book a mini-lesson and we will instruct you on the basic skills and essential safety guidelines.

We recommend inexperienced kayakers do not go to the Ships Graveyard. 

Due to legal reasons we cannot hire to persons under the age of 18 years unless accompanied by an
adult. 

On certain days the Ships Graveyard may not be accessible due to the tide or weather conditions.

Bookings are essential and can be made right now using a VISA or MasterCard using our online booking
system. 

If the date you want is sold out, you can go on a waiting list by completing all booking details. Your credit card won't be charged, and we will get in touch if kayaks become available.

WHAT TO BRING: 

  • Clothing to suit the temperature of the day

THE EXACT LOCATION OF OUR KAYAKING HIRE SERVICE  

Garden Island Boat Ramp and Reserve, Lot 204 Garden Island Road, Gillman (click to see location). This is a public reserve; We are a mobile business and have no office at this location. Look for the Adventure Kayaking vehicles, lots of kayaks/SUP's and happy people! The Port Adelaide Visitor Centre, 66 Commercial Road Port Adelaide, will also supply a map if you call in on the way to the kayaking. Check out what else is happening in The Port and make a day of it!


GETTING TO GARDEN ISLAND  

Most people drive out to Garden Island, there is a sealed road all the way. Unfortunately, public transport doesn't travel to Garden Island. There are regular train and bus services to Port Adelaide and a taxi or Uber will be required to get from there to Garden Island.

Our Kayak Tour is up to 3 hours of fun and adventure exploring beautiful mangrove creeks, Ships Graveyard Trail and search for dolphins. Ideal for adults and older children.

The Kayak Tour is up to three hours of fun exploring the Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard Maritime Heritage Trail. One of Adelaide's "secret spots" the tour is located just 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and is an area of surpassing beauty. The sheltered mangrove lined creeks are home to a fascinating array of marine life, birds and the Port River Dolphins. The Ship's Graveyard is a unique feature of the area with spectacular relics from the past which have been abandoned in the river.

All of which make for an amazing adventure, and best of all, kayaking is the most environmentally sensitive way to explore and interact with the dolphins. When the Port River Dolphins come to play it is a memory you will treasure forever. "Paddling with the Dolphins" has been voted one of the top FOUR MUST DO activities in Adelaide!

  • We launch from a boat ramp covered in non-slip matting. You simply step into the kayak and we slide you onto the water. You won't even get your feet wet!

Our Family Tour is 90 minutes of fun for families and even the grandparents! Join us to explore sheltered mangrove creeks & search for dolphins. This tour is conducted with up to 8 people in a group. Children must be 8 years +.

We have the craft ready for you at the launch site, help you set up and supply a map and advice on best spots and safe paddling. You create your own unique adventure! 

We follow all COVID-19 regulations. Our equipment is thoroughly cleaned after each use. Kayaking is a great way to socially isolate and get some exercise at the same time!  

 

HIRE RATES

The hire fee is for a 1-person 'sit on top' kayak, 1 life vest and 1 paddle for up to three hours use from the start time you book. 1-person 'sit on top' kayak hire is $40 for a 3 hour hire.

OUR HIRE SERVICE

Our service includes some time for assisting in setting up and providing safety and local area
information. If you are a novice paddler this could be 20 minutes. 

If you have not kayaked before you can book a mini-lesson and we will instruct you on the basic skills
and essential safety guidelines.

We recommend inexperienced kayakers do not go to the Ships Graveyard. 

Due to legal reasons we cannot hire to persons under the age of 18 years unless accompanied by an
adult. 

On certain days the Ships Graveyard may not be accessible due to the tide or weather conditions.

 

HOW TO BOOK

Bookings are essential and can be made right now using a VISA or MasterCard using our online booking
system. 

If the date you want is sold out, you can go on a waiting list by completing all booking details. Your credit card won't be charged, and we will get in touch if kayaks become available.

Full details will be sent via email immediately once your booking is made. If you do not receive this,
please contact us straight away.

WHAT TO BRING:     

  • Clothing to suit the temperature of the day      
  • A shady hat and sunscreen       
  • Shoes/sandals that may get wet(bare feet or thongs are not suitable)·        
  • Insect repellent      
  • Drink and snack       
  • A CAMERA/PHONE! We can supply a waterproof container.

THE EXACT LOCATION OF OUR KAYAKING HIRE SERVICE  

Garden Island Boat Ramp and Reserve, Lot 204 Garden Island Road, Gillman (click to see location). This is a public reserve; We are a mobile business and have no office at this location. Look for the Adventure Kayaking vehicles, lots of kayaks/SUP's and happy people! The Port Adelaide Visitor Centre, 66 Commercial Road Port Adelaide, will also supply a map if you call in on the way to the kayaking. Check out what else is happening in The Port and make a day of it!

 

GETTING TO GARDEN ISLAND  

Most people drive out to Garden Island, there is a sealed road all the way. Unfortunately, public transport doesn't travel to Garden Island. There are regular train and bus services to Port Adelaide and a taxi or Uber will be required to get from there to Garden Island.
