This amazing experience begins on the beach at Rapid Bay on the lower Fleurieu Peninsula about 90 km south of Adelaide.  Here the rugged coastline is spectacular with towering cliffs and crystal-clear water, a great place for a sea kayaking adventure. This is the most adventurous sea kayaking tour we offer and is conducted over the warmer months. Dates are advertised via our Facebook page so like us to receive updates. You can also give us a call or email to check when the next tour will run.

TOUR INFORMATION

The tour begins on the beach at Rapid Bay and after instruction on safety, paddling and fitting of the gear we are off to visit isolated beaches, mysterious sea caves and view seals, sea lions and sea eagles that inhabit this area.

Sea kayaking is not only great for your health it is also the most environmentally friendly way to interact with this environment and its inhabitants. The tour fee includes all kayaking equipment, guidance, lunch and non-alcoholic drinks. We pride ourselves on offering fresh, local foods and can cater for special dietary requirements on request.

Lunch is a healthy build your own "sub" or salad on a beautiful, isolated sandy beach, only accessible by small boat. This includes a selection of meats, ham, chicken, cheese and fresh salads. Special dietary requirements can be catered for.

• We provide quality 2-person sea kayaks which are very stable and easy to use
• Comfortable buoyancy vests
• Friendly guidance that will make the experience both safe and great fun.

REQUIREMENTS

• This tour is suitable for those who love the sea, have sound fitness and past kayaking experience.
• We cover 12-14 Km during the tour which may be beyond the limit of novice paddlers or those who do not exercise regularly.
• This tour is for adults and children 15 years and over.  

WEATHER POLICY

This tour is highly weather dependent...we will only go out if weather is virtually calm. We will phone you 2-4 days prior to the date of the tour to confirm conditions are suitable. In the case of bad weather cancellations we are happy to reschedule your booking for another day, or you could transfer to one of our Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard Tours near Port Adelaide depending on availability.

Hire a 2-person kayak to explore the Dolphin Sanctuary for up to 2 hours. Go on a self-guided exploration of the Dolphin Sanctuary using one of the handy A4 maps we provide of the area!

Kayak pick up is located at the Garden Island Boat Ramp and Reserve, Lot 204 Garden Island Road, Gillman (click to see location) in the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary …the best location for paddling in Adelaide. You can explore the beautiful mangrove creeks and search for dolphins with your family or friends. 

We have the craft ready for you at the launch site, help you set up and supply a map and advice on best spots and safe paddling. You create your own unique adventure! 

INCLUSIONS

• Hire fee includes a double kayak, 2x paddle, 2x life vests and map for up to 2 hours from the start of your session time.
• Our service includes some time for assisting in setting up and providing safety and local area information. If you are a novice paddler this could be 20 minutes. 
• When hiring a kayak, you will not be able to go to the ships graveyard due to safety. If you wish to visit the Ships Graveyard, please book into our 'Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard Tour'.

REQUIREMENTS

• Children must be a minimum of 8 years old.
• Due to legal reasons we cannot hire to persons under the age of 18 years unless accompanied by an adult.
• Our 2-person kayaks are suitable for people up to approximately 1.85m (6') in height and 140kg (each). Please call if you have any concerns

HIRE RATES

The hire fee is for a 2/3 person 'sit on top' kayak, 2 or 3 life vests (depending on number of participants) and two paddles for up to three hours use from the start time you book. 2/3-person 'sit on top' kayak hire is $60 for a 3 hour hire.

Please note. The 2/3-person 'sit on top' kayak is suitable for 2 adults and a small child or furry friend (dog). This kayak is not suitable for 3 adults.

Most people drive out to Garden Island, there is a sealed road all the way. Unfortunately, public transport doesn't travel to Garden Island. There are regular train and bus services to Port Adelaide and a taxi or Uber will be required to get from there to Garden Island.
